Welcome to another edition of the “The Valero Verdict” movie review. In this I will give you a quick movie review with a couple of bullet points of which I either liked or disliked. I will end the review with rating of the movie and a short overall thoughts.

On the docket today: the Horror/Mystery film Ready or Not.

• Plot: A bride’s wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.
  
  The idea and concept behind this movie was good. The whole game inside a movie has been done before but not in the way that Gary Busick and Ryan Murphy presented it in this film.

• Director/Writing: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin/Tyler Gillett – Gary Busick/Ryan Murphy
  
  The direction of the film was solid, it was well paced, each Act was better than the previous. I thought they way they shot the film was great. You had several different scenes that made you want to dive into the game yourself.
  
  The way they were able to take Grace from this young bride into this just straight bad ass was beautifully done.
  
  Also, the kills were written into this film to perfection. I loved each creative kill, and the subtle humor behind each one.

• Acting: Samara Weaving – Adam Brody
  
  I mentioned the two above as they stood out the most of the entire cast. The cast as a whole was good.
  
  Weaving as I mentioned with the writing, she was written perfectly into this character. But as a main vocal point of a movie, it can be written perfect but “acted” bad. She was remarkable in this film. She played this role of Grace so good, from her witty remarks to her overall straight kick ass attitude she brought from the middle of the Second Act on. I look forward to seeing a lot more of her in the future.
  
  Brody, he has always stood out to me as a great supporting actor (he was great in Shazam!). He basically played the role of the “rich kid” that was tired of his parent’s antics, equally funny as he was sarcastic. I loved it.

• Favorite Scene: Without giving anything away, I will just state that all the kill scenes.

• Enjoyment: An absolute blast. It was a fun, smart and unique film which brought didn’t overstay its welcome.

Overall Verdict:

*** out of ***** gavels.

This was an intense thriller that had some truly hilarious moments in it. Weaving/Brody were highlights of a truly fun cast. The movie was creative and it showed throughout the film the different ways it was capable to keep the movie progressing throughout each act. There is several truly cringe worthy moments in this movie (in a good way, that make you say ouch), that really turn your stomach. The ending? It kind of took away from the film. If they would have gave me a little more background on it, I would’ve been okay with it.

Should You See It?: Yes this would be one of those movies you’ll watch in 6 months and say “Dang, I wish I would’ve saw this in theaters”.
