Welcome to another edition of the “The Valero Verdict” movie review. In this I will give you a quick movie review with a couple of bullet points of which I either liked or disliked. I will end the review with rating of the movie and a short overall thoughts.

On the docket today: The sequel to the smash hit remake IT, IT Chapter Two.

• Plot: Twenty-seven years after their first encounter with the terrifying Pennywise, the Losers Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back.

• Acting: James McAvoy – Bill Hader – Bill Skarsgard
  
  Hader: Let me start by saying this, I would love to see Hader in a serious type role with small comedic humor again. Hader has the opportunity to win an Oscar in a different role in the future. This role was perfect for him, just the right amount of comedy relief and also serious at other moments.
  
  McAvoy: There was moments in this film where I saw McAvoy eerily similar to what we saw out of him in Split (which I loved), and it was great. He plays a very good schizophrenia, he is so capable of showing a wide range of emotions and this he did just that.
  
  Skarsgard: This filled one of the biggest issues I had with the first film, lots more of Pennywise. Skarsgard at times was down right creepy, even gave me the hibbie jibbies during certain scenes. They wrote some fantastic stuff for him in this film and he knocked it out of the ballpark, exactly what I wanted to see out of him in this film.

• Writing: Gary Dauberman
  
  They laid out the film rather well, the first act was a bit slow but done so on purpose. The second act shined and it was STRONG, one of the best acts of the year but they tried to get too cute and somewhat stupid.
  
  A death transpires in this film and you are supposed to be emotional invested in it but I was so wrapped up in how ridiculous that final act was, I didn’t care at all about it.

• Favorite Scene: The Fun House scene: The writing was brilliant, the acting was perfect, the entire scene was very well executed.

• Funniest Line: “Cut that fn mullet, it’s been 30 years man.”

• Run Time: You could’ve taken 30 minutes off of this film and you wouldn’t have missed anything important. You felt every bit of the 2 hours and 45 minute run time at the end.

The Verdict:

The film as a collective whole was good, I was invested in a lot of this movie. The second act alone was worth the price of admission. The acting was strong, Skarsgard got his time to shine as Pennywise, Hader and McAvoy added an amazing layer to this film and the movie was CREEPY!!!!!!!

But man they really missed the opportunity to make this film great. Heading into that third act, I was ready to crown this one of the years best films. But instead that third act will haunt me forever and not in a good way. It was bad, and it makes me so mad because I wanted to love this film. It just tried to get too cute and ruined the entire film.

Should You See It(Pun intended)?: Yes, this movie needs to be seen in theaters. It is a bit long, but overall its a good film.
